0- nonfunctional. I probably need to be in the hospital. Not capable of ADLs
1- I’m alive. I can probably drink water already next to my bed and maybe make it to the bathroom crawling. Sleeping 20+ hrs in 24. Migraine. I need help if I’m at this level for more than a day or so
2- might be able to eat food that doesn’t need prep or shower. Probably not both. Migraine. Probably not really capable of social interaction - may not be able/remember to respond to texts
3- can prepare simple food and eat it, and maybe even shower on the same day. Migraine. Not capable of leaving the house. Can probably text someone that I’m not feeling well or respond if someone texts me
4- can probably leave the house once. May be able to drive. Migraine or just aura, prodrome, or postdrome. Probably moving very slowly and leaning on things, may make it to work, but only 4 hrs or so
5- eh. Doing okay but probably exhausted and headachy. Will avoid anything not absolutely required, but can get to work and function as an almost competent human
6- can get to work and maybe do an errand or a load of laundry. Probably a headache, but generally functional. Need to be careful of energy expenditure and headache triggers
7-feeling pretty okay. No headache! Could go dancing maybe, or for a hike or risk a minor dietary headache trigger and probably be okay. Not both!
8- No headache and not feeling at immediate risk of one. Can get work and multiple errands done or exercise and be okay.
9- feeling good! Might do both exercise and work and even risk a not safe food all on the same day and be okay!
10- Energy to spare! Can do multiple social things in one day plus errands and work! Probably not thinking about headache or ME/CFS at all!

I’m thinking about trying to keep track of how I’m doing over time, but am generally terrible with more complicated tracking. I’m thinking remembering to note down one number will be easier and I might actually do it. I’ve been doing pretty okay staying generally 3 and up since late 2017, and mostly in the 4-8 range over the last year (even with the pandemic). I’m about 3 days in to a run of 3,4,5, which is at least moving in the right direction, but I want the headache to go away :( I’m less used to being in pain than I was, so think I’m handling it worse. It’s good I’m not cycling 1-3 like I was around 2015, but I needed to write this out to remind myself that it has been both worse and better than it’s been this week. It can be hard to remember.
I’ll try using the scale and see what kinds of updates it needs - I’m sure I’ve forgotten something.
